The canyon walls of the North wear a cloak of moss and fern, cool as dusk with little waterfalls trickling down every other corridor, soft and old like the bones of the world. Fog rolls slow down the cool rock and from faraway you can just make out the sigh of the sea.

But sometimes the green and grey world, quiet as cobwebs, seems to be breathing. It seems to be listening. The question is what it does with the things it learns.

This land will change in November.

From the parched mouth of the desert in the east there is only one word and it is red. Red dust chokes the sun with a red veil and red shadows slant along the red hills that march on forever. Occasionally dust storms will build on the horizon and sweep across the sand, ravenous for the world.

There are ways to survive it, and the things that call it home. But they require far more than luck.

Everything is heavy with salt and brine in the South. The air here has a sharp sting of sulfur and long, rotten things. Ship lay wrecked and torn on the shores, half buried in the sand and half set to sea. Nothing that lingers here thrives.

When the storms roll in and the tide rushes the dunes the entire South is swallowed by the sea on all sides. And after the storms the sea always keeps whatever it takes.

It’s in the West that the world vanishes. The sky is swallowed by galaxies and the hills fade into glass so thick that it’s only black beneath them. Here the world is silent and so hollow that it devours every heartbeat. Starlight is the only light (so bright that it burns and blinds) there is to see by.

Strange things slip in and out of the empty spaces between the stars. They have tentacles of shadows and teeth made of meteors. Beware the beauty of this place-- it kills.
